Cyande= toxic substance (present in countless forms in nature)

- fastest acting= gas, hydrogen cyanide

-slower acting= salts, sodium cyanide

 

(cyanide prevents your body from absorbing oxygen)

 

• some industrial chemicals, such as acetonitrile, is metabolized to cyanide by the body

- in the presence of inadequate oxygen the product of carbon oxidation is carbon monoxide

 

(causes: faulty heaters, indoor fires, & other situations where carbon is not fully oxidized are the usual scenarios in which high amounts of carbon monoxide are produced)
