Heath Ledger

Heath Ledger, the Australian actor who was best known from movies such as The Dark Knight and The Breakfast Club, is an example of an accidental overdose; determined by the forensic toxicologists who investigated the scene. At first the authorities didn't know if this overdose was intended to be suicidal in nature or happened to be an accident, but homicide was ruled out to be the cause of his death. It was understood that Ledger indulged himself with drugs, such as cocaine and other substances, and weeks leading up to his death many believed that his drug addiction became out of control. With the help of forensic toxicologists and the Chief Medical Examiner of New York, it was reported that Heath Ledger's death was accidental. He was severely intoxicated by several prescribed medications that were taken together: oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam, and doxylamine; though lethal together, these medications would not have caused a detrimental ending if taken separately. The impression I get is that Heath Ledger might not have known that these prescriptions would be fatal together since drug use was so common to him, and maybe taking a mixture of drugs at once was something he did. I guess taking "harmless" prescribed drugs together didn't seem to be that bad compared to the hardcore drugs he was acclimated to. (Medical Bag, 2013)
